DANIEL COMBES GARDEN DESIGN
Wiltshire Garden Design
Daniel Combes Garden Design are a Wiltshire based multidisciplinary team of garden designers, landscape architects and ecologists focused on the design and management of beautiful gardens and landscapes.
Our studio is located in an old farmyard, in a courtyard of traditional barns, on the edge of rolling Wiltshire chalk downland in the Cranborne Chase AONB. From our offices we can see The Fovant Badges; a set of regimental badges cut into a chalk hill, Fovant Down in the south-west corner of Wiltshire.
Wiltshire is our home and a constant source of inspiration.
Daniel Combes Garden Design commissions vary enormously - our work encompasses large scale garden designs for historic estates and rural landscapes, as well as more modest projects for town and country houses throughout Wiltshire and beyond.
Larger scale projects include the re-interpretation of historic gardens as well as the management of the wider estate. We believe that biodiverse landscapes are not only better for wildlife, but infinitely more beautiful.
Our Wiltshire garden design projects have allowed us to re-design gardens for listed properties and estates as well as for the Georgian house known to be the birthplace of one of Britain’s greatest architects, Sir Christopher Wren.
Some of our smaller scale commissions have included the re-design of an existing Wiltshire cottage garden and the creation of a totally unique garden design for a new build home.
Garden design projects include those for listed period houses, cottage gardens, kitchen gardens, orchards, hard landscaping, water features, parkland or woodland; we enjoy the variety that the Wiltshire countryside offers.
Daniel Combes garden designs are bespoke, each garden design is unique and personal to our clients style and the architecture of the house as well as the Wiltshire landscape that surrounds it. Our planting schemes often contrast a strong architectural framework with a mass of colour and scent, while the use of hard landscaping enhances each space, selecting local or repurposed materials where possible.
The County of Wiltshire
Wiltshire is county synonymous with ancient landscapes of chalk downs and chalk river valleys. Home to large swathes of significantly important rural and agricultural countryside such as Cranborne Chase AONB and Salisbury Plain. Valleys such as The Vale of Wardour and The Vale of Pewsey, wooded greensand hills found from Longleat to Stourhead and Donhead to Fovant, and rolling clay lowland found at Calne, Minety and Trowbridge.
Both large and small period country houses and estates sit comfortably alongside Wiltshire’s numerous prehistoric monuments. Each town or village is home to an historic house, stately home or listed building with towns and cities such as Salisbury, Marlborough, Warminster, Pewsey and Wilton housing significant monuments and landmarks including Salisbury Cathedral, Wilton House, Avebury and Stonehenge.
Clients relocating to Wiltshire are drawn by the quiet rural understated county with picture perfect villages and its excellent connections back to London.
