A GARDEN IN oxfordshire
This Oxfordshire garden design illustrates the effectiveness of clarity and simplicity. Our clients had a good idea of what they wanted to achieve and we were brought in to advise on the planting. The plant palette is very restrained.
The main body of the garden is a simple contrast between long and cut grass. Bands of perennials grass, edged by disappearing dry stone walls, add another layer of texture. There is a multi-stem garden where a repeat of Silver Birch invokes a pioneer woodland.
The seasons are referenced with the lush growth of grass in spring. By summer the grass turns a wonderful wheat yellow, in tune with the ripening of the crops in the surrounding fields.
In Autumn, the grass is cut just above the height of the mown pathways and formal lawn, maintaining a point of difference. Fruits and Roses are trained to the perimeter walls and a wonderful oak tree stands sentinel to the east.
